Miley Cyrus New Year's Eve Performance

A lot of people watch Dick Clark’s Rocking Eve on New Year’s Eve. I know that I really enjoy watching and listening to all of the performances, so it has been a tradition of mine to watch it every New Year’s Eve. Many celebrities perform on this night and is said to be a huge honor to get to perform in front of billions of people, but one performance really stood out to me, Miley Cyrus’s performance.

Miley Cyrus became very popular in 2013 with her breaking away from her Disney channel image. Most everyone has seen and heard her music and music videos. With her outrageous performance at the AMA’s to her breaking up with her longtime boyfriend Liam Hemsworth, 2013 was definitely Miley’s year. So there was no surprise that Miley would be singing at time square on New Year’s Eve. However what surprised me the most was her song choice. She sang a song that I didn’t know and wasn’t a popular song. My friends and I debated whether this was an original song by Miley Cyrus or if it was an old song that none of us had ever heard of. Either way I didn’t like the song and didn’t really even have a chorus. I was so shocked that she didn’t sing one of her very popular songs like “Wreaking Ball”. I was looking forward to something that I could sing and dance to with my friends but was hugely disappointed. I wasn’t just mad about the tempo of the song, but that the song made no sense, and had no evident story behind it. I prefer songs that let you see how the artist is feeling and tells a story about themselves or about their life, this lets me really relate to the song and use it in my everyday life, but instead Miley’s song just left me confused.

One thing that I was predicting about Miley’s performance, but I was wrong about was how Miley would choose to dress. I thought she would choose to wear what she has, or really hasn’t been wearing, clothes. For this performance Miley chose to be mostly covered with an exception of her midriff. I don’t know if this was because it was so cold out, but either way she wasn’t half naked and shaking her butt on stage, which has been made her signature performance as of 2013. Maybe with a new year comes a new Miley, but if not I’m sure we will hear a lot about her with the year to come, remember to get all your Miley news here at Performance Reviews BlogSpot!
