Katy Perry's Album Prism

Did Katy Perry’s newest album “Prism” out do the rest of her albums, or did the album fall short? There are many views on this topic, but for the most part the ratings are positive. It was thought that this album was going to be darker, and then the rest of her albums, but it turned out to be fun but dramatic.

I personally really liked this album, and it’s actually my favorite one by her so far. The album is just so emotional, and I feel like she really opens up in this album. A lot of the songs in Prism revolve around the themes of living in the present, relationships, and self-empowerment. You can definitely see these themes when listening to the album, because she truly puts herself into this record. From the songs like Dark Horse, and Roar, which are more upbeat, get on your feet dance songs, to unconditionally, which is a more heart felt single in which she really lets herself go, and show the world what she is really feeling. It’s not surprising that we find all of these songs on her album, considering she did have a not so great year, on behalf of her personal life, from divorcing her ex-husband Russell Brand, to starting up a new relationship, it isn’t to surprising that one of her major themes for the album is relationships.

With Prism being Katy’s fourth album, she is used to the ups and downs of writing songs and producing the album. But she definitely hasn’t lost her touch considering that many of her songs like Dark Horse, became the number one song in the United States, according to the Billboard Hot 100. Dark horse is one of Katy Perry’s more dark songs, which we usually don’t see from Katy. But Katy Perry said that she wanted the song to have a “witch-y, spell-y, magic-y type of feel to it”. So she wrote it from the perspective of a witch warning a man not to fall in love with her, and if he does, she will be his last. I think that she did a great job of accomplishing this, especially in here performance at the Grammy’s, she sang this song to perfection. She dressed as a witch with a flow-y dress, all of her background dancers dressed in similar costumes, and even a dark metal horse which was so creative. All of this just added to the erie feeling of it all when she was performing. I would have to say this was one of the best performances she has had in a while that I have seen.
